Why are christians so critical of Muhammad for?

because Muhammad isnt a Christian Prophet, their bible says Jesus will be the last prophet so they are naturally distrusting of any prophet after him. They wont even try to look at the issue from a non bias prospective. Its rather sad but you are 100 percent correct. Muhammad was a extremly exceptional leader, he deserves all of the praise he can get.
