Are the American people under prepared for a economic or natural disaster?

Look at how we are so dependent on so many things that are not that reliable (cell phones, internet, fossil fuels, etc.), with almost no contingency plan for if or when those things breakdown. Say mive solar flares hit the atmosphere and knock out most of the satellites and half of the worlds electricity, or if theres a pandemic and 75% of us die from an incurable disease, or an economic collapse and we cannot buy food. If the internet goes out (say due to said pandemic, or if mive solar flares wipe out electricity on this side of the globe), transportation is gone, and with that goes food and fuel. What will happen to us if disaster strikes our country?
